  1. Hatch Chile Roast this Sunday @ Big Saver in La Puente and next Sunday in
    El Sereno
    5168 Huntington Dr S
    Los Angeles, CA 90032
    United States

  2. Coming from SW Colorado. I cannot believe how difficult it is to get fresh roasted Chile. Can we please add a location in the Glendora, Ca area. They used to have it at Albertsons (Glendora).

    1. Superior Market in City of Industry, will be doing Fresh Hatch chile roasting this Saturday 8/7/21. First come, first serve.

  3. Are you roasting at Safeway in Redwood City CA? Also Half Moon Bay has a huge Safeway. You’d be welcomed there !!!’

      1. Yes we need some in Sacramento, and outskirts in Roseville, Rocklin, Auburn!!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 Yuba City!

    1. Oh no! Northgate market isn’t hosting any roasts this year??? That’s so strange and a huge bummer. Will they be adding any soon?

    2. Do you know if the Albertson’s in Montebello offer pre orders for the September roasting or can anyone come in and order at the market from the time they arrive at the Market? We always look forward to buying the best quality pick of mild chilies every year!

      Thank you for your time,

          1. Please update us when the northern California roasting schedule is available. Thank from a diehard hatch fan.

            1. Can’t wait to see if we have any in Central California/ Fresno. I’m good for three full boxes/70-75 pounds on my own!

              1. There are NO 2020 Hatch Chile Roasting Locations in San Diego??? Really??? what gives? I saw Chula Vista but that’s still 1/2 hour or more drive for me I live in central SD. There was one in Hillcrest last year.

                1. Hi James, there is San Diego roasting at Northgate Market 1410 43rd St on Fri. 8/28 – 2 to 7PM – would get there early the one I went to in OC ran out after ~ 3 hours

                2. Northgate Market nr Bario Logan will be doing roasting Friday Aug 28. All Northgate Markets have fresh Hatch as well. Check for fresh factor before buying.

                  Northgate San Diego
                  1410 S 43rd St
                  8/28 2:00-7:00 PM

                1. Got my medium and extra hot chile at Sprouts Chula Vista, supplied and roasted by Melissa’s Produce.

The chiles are BURNT, not roasted but incinerated. My guess is the folks running the roasters are not from New Mexico. They probably have not visited New Mexico to observe the process of roasting Chile. From my observation, they roasted by time, as each batch turned and burned for 8 minutes.

                2. Added for End of August – September

                3. Hola, I’m looking for X-Hot or XX-Hot Chile in Southern California, roasting would be a plus! Also, anyone know about the dried Chile powder ( red or green) in So. Cal. Thank you for bringing Hatch to California!

                    1. Thanks for the tip! I didn’t see on their site that the chiles are pre-roasted. Do you know for sure that’s true? Not sure I want to commit to a case if I’d have to roast them all myself. (I’ll call them if you don’t know the answer…just trying not to bother grocery stores by calling them these days if I can help it!)

                  1. Northgate Markets are doing weekend roasting at select locations. Norwalk seems to be the most consistent, just beware that I’ve observed Northgate displaying raw chile in un refrigerated areas for display, and leaving them out for days (attracting flies and decomposing chiles). Also, they tend to only have hot and extra hot varieties.

                      1. I’m glad you’e adding additional locations. Will you be doing any roasting in Ventura County? I saw somewhere that you might be roasting in Saticoy, but I’m not sure how to preorder. Thank you.

                        1. Try the Santa Monica Farmers Market on Saturdays at Virginia Avenue Park, Cloverfield Blvd @ Pico Blvd.

I no longer live there, but when I did they sold roasted chill peppers there Saturdays in September. If they do have roasted peppers, try to get there early, before they sell out.

                        2. Check out Gelson’s. I am getting from the Manhattan Beach Store on Aug 22. Unfortunately, they are only taking online orders. Another location is in LB. Then you go pick up.

                      2. Totally lagging this year ! There is a lockdown, but the Chiles are still growing and harvested. What’s going on for 2020 in California ?

                        1. the chile still growing but the harvest is hard this year, I have family in Hatch NM , and like every year the immigration Checkpoint is open but many of the people to work is afraid at this time with the pandemic , the harvest of onion is being affected too. Be patient my friend

                      3. When will 2020 dates start to be posted? Thanks! I got mine from Lazy Acres in San Diego last Sept., and they were great!

                      4. For this weekend (August 24) I have discovered that these markets will have chiles and will be roasting:

Gelson’s (La Canada, Rancho Mirage, Santa Barbara, Sherman Oaks)

                            2. I live in Tehama county 135 miles south of the Oregon Border; I get my Hatch Chile through Amazon Prime; Very good Green/Verde Medium is my favorite. I have been in Hatch New Mexico and Las Cruces. I like the ZIA Roasted Hatch Green Chile . I have several Mexican Amigos, I have them both the medium & the Hot Green Chile they love it and tell me it’s better then the chile they get in Mexico. It’s vey good with scrambled eggs, and pork chile verde.

                            3. Does anyone know about Gelson’s Hatch Chili Summer Festival? I called them a week ago and they didn’t have any information. I only found this event out by seeing a webpage for it but for last year. I would like to go if someone has more information! Thanks!

                                1. BEEN LOOKING FOR THESE DELICIOUS CHILE’S FOR A LONG TIME. I CURRENTLY LIVE IN BLOOMINGTON CALIFORNIA WHICH IS RIGHT NEAR FONTANA AND HAVE BEEN TO THE WALMART UP THE STREET AND CAN’T FIND HATCH CHILES ANYWHERE. WHY CAN’T THEY BE IN THE STATER BROTHERS MARKETS? I HATE IT WHEN I GO TO WALMART AND THEY DON’T EVEN HAVE ONE JAR OF THE SALSA THEY DON’T HAVE ANY OF THIS CHILI PEPPERS ON THE SHELF THERE’S NONE AND IT’S SO FRUSTRATING CUZ THESE CHILE’S ARE THE BEST. I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY ADVICE YOU COULD GIVE ME THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

                                2. FYI- called to confirm event for sept 7 at the gelsons in Tarzana 3-7pm, that information in NOT correct I called the store and they stated they sell the chilis but will not be having a roasting event.

                                  1. Safeway is doing it, but closer to East Bay:

                                3. Goodmorning! Will you be adding the locations in which Stater Bros. will be participating? I can provide the dates for 4 of the stores that will be hosting the event during the month of August. The first is this Saturday, August 11th, at 161 E 40th St, San Bernardino, CA 92404.

                                    1. Please, what are the other dates for San Bernardino, CA 92404
0r surrounding area, up to 60 miles!

                                      Thank you!
                                      Lola

                                  1. Hi. Are these actually from NM cause my mother said the first batch isn’t very good and they don’t get them til the end of August in Albuquerque? Thanks

                                    1. Hi Kevin,. Ralph’s is also doing Hatch Chile Roasting events and the Rancho Cucamonga store off Day Creek Blvd event will be on Sunday September 2nd!

                                  2. Trader Joe’s used to sell frozen Hatch chile and just discontinued it in January 2018. You should contact them and get it back there. We would buy 4 frozen 2.5# packages a month. Now my friends from NM send it to me. Such a shame, I plan a trip to NM this fall just to buy it from the farms out there.

                                  3. Jonathan Castellanos

WHAT ABOUT THE HIGH DESERT!!!!!!!!!! YOURE LOOSING CASHHHHHHHH!!!!!! VICTORVILLE, HESPERIA, APPLE VALLEY!!!!!! COME ON NOW!!!!!!!

                                  4. There are a ton of us out here in the Inland Empire San Bernardino area that would live to be put on a list. Stater Brothers is Big out this way. Get in touch with them for future roasts. Love your chiles!

                                  5. Thank you so much for posting these locations. I can now have one of my favorite things from Colorado in Southern California!

                                  6. Who Hoo ! Just down the street, in Arcadia on Aug 19th..Not missing it this year!
Makes a different tasting chili using a Carol Shelby knock-off scratch recipe w Dos Equis dark.

                                    1. Yes for sure Sacramento area , know last year Raley’s Beair Nob Hill carried it .. Safeway too in Carmichael Fair Oaks , area know they { Raleys , Walmart has the sauce in cans .. } but rather make my own sauce ..

                                  7. San Francisco is NOT northern California, regardless of how desperately they wish to distance themselves from southern cal. The real northern Californians get no love! We need some chilis in Sacramento, Yuba City, Chico and Redding. These areas have the population to get you $$$pay$$$ for the play. BRING US THE CHILIS!!!!

                                  9. Too bad Gelson’s and Bristol Farms in Southern California. I’m sure they’ll charge twice as much. What about regular grocery stores, not just high end? Before Albertsons in Chula Vista got them every year. ?

                                  10. Please tell me why you don’t have any in the Inland Empire or High Desert area. I’m so sad. I would be your number one customer!!!!!!????

                                  11. Not many in Northern California like last year. Petaluma is where we went…. 1 hour drive but worth it….. what up? Is San Francisco really that hot for hatch? Gimme a break

                                          2. Why didn’t this post show up sooner? I live close to San Bernardino, Ca. Way too late to go! But placing my order from Gillies, from New Mexico.

                                            1. We really do need roasts in the Fresno area. The demand is high and we have to drive 3-4 hours to hit a roasting spot at this point. We have Safeway/Von’s, Sprouts, and Whole Foods in the area…any chance of dropping in a roaster or two? Those stores carry Hatch chile, but do not roast right now.

                                            2. 30lbs sack for $35

                                              1. ❤️❤️ I am so excited to see you in Northern California, I’m planning on spending my entire paycheck on the good stuff.

                                                  1. You are kidding, right? I know you are working hard to get your bit of heavan to California but geez. You have skipped the entire inland empire and that is a bunch of landscape. I suppose I will what I always do. Drive to hatch and pick up my fix. How I miss nm.

                                                    1. Barbara – Don’t kill the messenger! If you have a line on stores in the IE roasting chiles, send them my way and I’ll add them to the list. TBH, I have only seen 1 sprouts in Corona roast chiles… and they did a crappy job of telling the world. Just saying. =)

                                                        1. There should be some in your area Gina. Worst case, you may have to drive 15-20min. SoCal usually does about 100 roasts in 6 weeks. Plenty of opportunity! Stay tuned for more dates and locations

                                                        2. Go to elreyfarms.com and you can order from there. They do a major shipping to La Puente High School and there are roasters setup if you want them roasted. Great quality, fresh! Good luck.

                                                          1. El Rey has priced themselves out of market yes it may be a tradition and they may have the attitude for example we been doing this for years but I know several clients that now buy elsewhere due to high cost and being very much cheaper (same quality) elsewhere. Don’t buy El Rey tooo expensive!!

                                                            1. Hi Linda I too live in Hemet …..right off of Lyons and Oakland 4 blocks away from Florida…… I’m still looking around. I was told possibly at Cardenas market in San Jacinto……dare wasn’t told possibly September.

                                                                1. Anything in Indio or La Quinta area, which is in Riverside county……like Ralph’s maybe. I know I got some there last year.

                                                                  1. I saw a flyer for Whole Foods in Palm Desert roasting Hatch Chiles on either August 13 or 15, next week! I’d call the store for exact date. If you wait til September at Albertsons they may be the last picked of season and not so great in quality. Good luck.

                                                                      1. The Albertsons on Scott, right off of the 215 has some left. I called them today and the produce guy knows nothing of roasted Hatch chiles however, they have some in stock.

                                                                      2. Hi Linda I too live in Hemet …..right off of Lyons and Oakland 4 blocks away from Florida…… I’m still looking around. I was told possibly at Cardenas market in San Jacinto……dare wasn’t told possibly September.

                                                                      3. I am in need of information where the peppers are available date , time, and location that I can -resubmit my name and amount request for personal and family consumption. Any advice is appreciated.

                                                                          1. Frank met you a few.times.My inlaws.from Radium.Springs they used to buy from you you also gave me some.salsas to take.back to Cali. Joe.and Ernestine are their names.
